Benefits of Meditation

There are numerous health benefits to meditation. When meditating, the body undergoes a structural change, which demonstrates the profound impact of simply sitting down with eyes closed. In fact, MRI images show a complete change in the brain’s different departments, which results in a relaxation response in the rest of the body.

Here is a list of a few of the physical and mental benefits of regular practice:

  • Lowers high blood pressure
  • Improves the immune system
  • Lowers risk of heart disease and stroke
  • Increases the energy level, as you gain an inner source of energy
  • Combats aging and increases longevity
  • Increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior
  • Sharpens the mind by increasing focus and expands through relaxation
  • Helps one control habits like eating, drinking and smoking
  • Reduces stress by stimulating your parasympathetic nervous system
  • Cultivates focus and self-control
  • Stimulates creativity and insight
  • Helps one control depression and anxiety
  • Boosts self-esteem and confidence

How To Get The Benefits

While there is no doubt that you will feel the benefits of meditation after just one session, in order to experience an integration of the benefits of meditation into daily life, regular practice is necessary. It takes only a few minutes every day and you can do it from anywhere, I for one have meditated on airplanes, at home and outdoors. All you need is to set your intentions and make it a part of your daily routine. If you find yourself being challenged to get started, I recommend a guided mediation class or you can simply find one online. One of my favorite guided meditations are by Sally Kempton. So, what are you waiting for!
